First Time Flyer Guide to Private Jet Charter
If you’ve never flown a private jet before, you may be thinking about the rules and etiquette of operating a business jet. But they are actually quite simple.
Your first trip in a business jet is something you should cherish, not fear. By following a few basic principles and guidelines, you’ll feel right at home on this important business trip. That way, you can get the most out of what will be an incredible experience.
Here are a few things to know before your first private jet flight:
find FBO
When you fly with a commercial airline, everything is marked as soon as you enter the terminal. But when you fly privately, you’ll be departing via a fixed-based operator (FBO). This is an area within the airport, especially for private aviation. It helps you avoid all the queues and chaos at the main airport.
Ideally, you will receive an itinerary listing the FBO you will be departing from. Feel free to call or email them quickly to find out the details of your trip. For example, they can give you precise instructions on where to go when you arrive at the airport. And they can give you some tips on where to park.
Don’t forget your ID
As simple as it sounds, this is something that first-time flyers often overlook. Flying privately is a completely different experience than flying commercial, and you’ll enjoy tons of perks like skipping all the usual check-in and security sections. However, that doesn’t mean you can board the plane without showing a photo ID. A passport is ideal, but you can also bring:
Driver’s license
ID card
Passport
If you are flying internationally, only a valid passport will suffice.
Pack it properly
Unfortunately, space is often limited on private jets. It’s true that you won’t have to check your bags as you would on a regular flight, but that’s necessarily 3 suitcases etc per person. Doesn’t mean there’s enough space for it.
The easiest way to find out how much you can bring is to ask the person in charge of booking the private jet. If every seat is full, you may be limited to one or two bags. Or if it’s a large plane, you can have more flexibility.
There are some items you can’t carry on your plane that are pretty self-explanatory – think sharp objects, firearms, and guns. Unlike commercial flights, you will be able to bring liquids, including your own beverages. But it’s also likely to be gourmet in-flight catering.
stay sober
Speaking of bringing your own drinks, some first-time passengers have been found guilty of showing a little too much indulgence. It’s easy to see how with all the excitement, but you have to be careful not to drink too much alcohol – just as you would on a commercial flight.
It has been suggested that high altitude can make you feel drunk faster than usual, so it makes sense to be cautious. And as for drinks, you might want to use the bathroom before you set off. Depending on the size and model you fly, it can be difficult to find your way to the bathroom.
